We have now added an even more reliable way to secure your Jottacloud account — through an authenticator app.

What is new?

You can now use an authenticator app for two-factor authentication on Jottacloud. Using an app instead of SMS is more reliable because an authenticator app is not dependent on the cellphone network to deliver the code to you. Also, the code is not sent in clear text over a cellphone network.

When activating two-factor with an authenticator app, you also get recovery codes. This means that even if you lose access to your app or phone, you can still log in to your account with the recovery codes.

Some authenticator apps such as Authy, 1Password or LastPass Authenticator, support backup and restore of your 2FA data.

We highly recommend our users to activate two-factor authentication on their account.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication is a two-step login process. In addition to your username and password, you must enter a code that you receive on an authenticator app or SMS when you log in. The purpose of this is to add an extra layer of security to your account, which means that a stolen password is not enough for someone to get access to your files.

How do I enable two-factor authentication in Jottacloud?

To secure your Jottacloud account with two-factor authentication, you need to go to your account settings. Here you can activate authentication trough app or SMS.

Note: If you already have two-factor enabled with SMS, you must disable two-factor before you can set up two-factor with your favorite authenticator app.
